What is a western anyway? Join historian Joe Webster and find out on Friday, February 23rd at 5:30 P.M. The History of the American Western cinema can be tracked back to the Roman games in the Circus Maximus and the Coliseum. This special dinner presentation takes a brief look at that history and some influential western flicks that led to the movies we see today. We will examine change from silents to ‘talkies” and some of the actors and actresses that made the change and some who didn’t. What influence did the wild west shows and rodeos have on how we make western movies. We will look at why the popularity of the western waned and is there a future of the western movie.
As the name implies this western heritage program will feature a delicious pasta dinner from our good friends at Catering by Liz, a cash bar, our special presentation, and an exciting raffle drawing at the evening’s conclusion. Proceeds generated will benefit the Phippen’s Youth Art education programming.
