Junior Wranglers Youth Art Program
January
Kids will create their very own sand painting of the dam, exploring its sweeping shape and Arizona’s incredible landscapes.
A tactile, relaxing project that invites creativity and curiosity.
February
In celebration of our statehood on February 14th, kids will craft bright, colorful clothespin wreaths inspired by Arizona’s iconic red, yellow, and blue.
A perfect way to show some state pride and take home a festive decoration!
March
Kids will design and assemble their own mini popsicle-stick log cabins, learning about Lincoln’s early life and the simple frontier homes of his time.
A hands-on project with tons of room for creative flair.
April
Kids will paint a vibrant watercolor scene of Boston Harbor, inspired by the Boston Tea Party and the events that began on April 19, 1775.
A great blend of history and expressive, colorful art.
May
Celebrate Golden Spike Day, when the transcontinental railroad was united on May 10, 1865.
Kids will use toilet paper rolls and art supplies to build a charming, inventive train of their own—full of personality and imagination.
June
Kids will mold and paint their own Arizona map out of salt clay, highlighting the Gadsden area in bright green.
A perfect mix of art, geography, and hands-on fun.
July
Kids will write a simple, heartfelt poem about Bucky, then turn it into a beautifully illustrated poster.
A meaningful project blending writing, art, and Western history.
August
Kids will create a detailed paper mosaic of the Niña, Pinta, and Santa María, using shapes, colors, and textures to bring Columbus’ voyage to life.
A bright, creative exploration of early exploration.
September
Kids will design beautiful beaded necklaces with feathers, learning about symbolism, color, and personal expression in art.
October
Kids will paint a fun, imaginative picture of Mrs. O’Leary’s cow and the lantern that legend says started the Great Chicago Fire.
A silly-meets-historic project that always sparks creativity.
November
Kids will love creating and wearing this frontier classic — perfect for imaginative play, storytelling, and learning about early American adventurers.
December
Kids will paint a watercolor poster of the Montgomery bus where Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on December 5, 1955.
A meaningful and artistic way to honor a hero and reflect on the importance of standing up for what’s right.

💲 Cost: $15 per day | $10 for members
Join us this summer for hands-on fun at the Phippen Museum’s Youth Mini Camp! Designed for ages 5–14, each day features engaging activities inspired by life in the Old West—combining art, history, and creativity.
Campers will explore topics like ranch life, gardening, cowboy culture, and local traditions while creating unique art projects such as watercolor paintings, beaded jewelry, mosaics, and more. Special themed days include Cowboy Day, Fire Safety Day (pending), and Parade Prep for Prescott’s Frontier Days.
Snacks and drinks are provided—please bring a sack lunch.
Space is limited to 15 participants per day. Pre-registration is required.

Daily Activities
June 11 – Horses & Cattle
Learn how ranchers cared for animals, make butter, and build a mini corral.
June 12 – Gardens & Orchards
Explore ranch-grown foods, make a fruit salad, and create a pastel still life.
June 18 – Beaded Fun
Discover 1800s jewelry traditions and create a bracelet and necklace.
June 19 – Plant Discovery Day
Plant sunflower seeds and make a mosaic using seeds and beans.
June 25 – Cowboy Poets Day
Enjoy cowboy storytelling (pending guest) and write your own poems and songs.
June 26 – Ranch Life & Gear
Visit the Western Heritage Gallery and paint a watercolor cowboy or cowgirl.
July 2 – Fire Safety Day (pending)
Meet local firefighters, explore a fire truck, and create a home safety poster.
July 3 – Parade Day
Decorate the museum’s parade float and tie-dye red, white & blue t-shirts.

🎨 First Saturday Youth Art Workshops
Every first Saturday of the month, young artists get hands-on with fun, themed art projects that explore Western history, nature, and culture. Each workshop is designed to spark creativity, teach new skills, and introduce kids to the many ways art tells a story.

Creativity knows no bounds! These drop-in, self-guided art days give kids the freedom to explore different materials and techniques in an open, supportive environment. No rules, no pressure—just imagination at play!

Calling all young adventurers! Our Phippen Ranger Youth Mini Camp is a fun-filled exploration of Western history, cowboy culture, and artistic expression. Through interactive activities, hands-on projects, and engaging storytelling, kids connect with the past in a way that’s both educational and unforgettable.

Can’t make it to the museum? No problem! Our FREE Outreach Program brings the Phippen experience straight to you.
📚 Our engaging, 60-minute sessions can be scheduled Tuesday–Friday, 9 AM–3 PM and are led by our passionate staff and docents. We provide all the materials—you just bring the curiosity!
Field Trips to the Phippen
A museum visit is more than just a field trip—it’s an adventure into the American West! Thanks to a generous donor, we offer paid bus transportation for local schools, making it easier than ever for students to visit.
