From a near-fatal fall at the Grand Canyon to a harrowing moment during the filling of Hoover Dam\, her vivid recollections bring history to life with humor\, courage\, and insight. \nA gifted painter\, photographer\, and writer\, Cory helped shape the cultural legacy of Prescott alongside notable figures like Grace M. Sparkes and Sharlot Hall. Her work earned recognition from the U.S. Government\, the Arizona State Senate\, and prominent enterprises including the Santa Fe Railroad. \nThis engaging presentation at the Phippen Museum promises an unforgettable evening of captivating storytelling and rich Arizona art history—an inspiring tribute to a life fully lived. \n  \nBrenda Cusick studies all facets of Kate T. Cory life in order to personify Cory on stage. Cusick has conducted research on Cory at the Sharlot Hall Archives\, Arizona State Capital\, Museum of Northern Arizona\, Scottsdale Museum of the West\, and Museum of Indigenous People\, as well as visited Cory’s home on the Hopi Mesas of Walpi and Oraibi. Cusick has presented at the Western Heritage Center\, Sharlot Hall Museum and Flagstaff’s Riordan Mansion as well as several historical societies. She served on the Prescott Western Heritage Foundation Board of Directors for 4 years.

Founded by Louise Phippen\, along with fellow artists\, family\, and friends\, the museum stands as a testament to his enduring influence.\n\nFeaturing more than 100 objects and artworks drawn from the Phippen Museum’s permanent collection\, generous private lenders\, and works and personal items from the family ranch in Skull Valley\, the exhibition traces Phippen’s journey from a young boy sculpting livestock from clay to a U.S. Army cartographer\, illustrator\, and ultimately a masterful fine artist.\n\nRather than focusing solely on finished works\, the exhibition emphasizes the experiences that shaped his artistic vision. Working in pen and ink\, watercolor\, oil\, and bronze\, Phippen was known for his meticulous attention to accuracy and his ability to capture vivid action and authentic detail. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Phippen Museum for a special Awards Reception celebrating The Color of Light\, the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society’s spring exhibition. \nOn Saturday\, March 28 at 1:00 PM\, we will honor the talented artists featured in this exhibition\, showcasing the work of 33 members of the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society. This reception offers a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists and celebrate the creativity and skill behind this vibrant collection. \nEarlier in the day\, don’t miss a live watercolor demonstration by internationally renowned artist Stephen Quiller beginning at 11:00 AM. A signature member of the American Watercolor Society\, National Watercolor Society\, and Watercolor West\, Quiller is widely recognized for his mastery of water media and color. He is the recipient of the American Watercolor Society’s Gold Medal of Honor and Silver Medal\, among many other distinctions. \nQuiller is also the author of seven bestselling books on painting and color\, creator of the widely used Quiller Color Wheel\, and an influential educator who has taught workshops around the world. Known for his innovative techniques\, he works on a toned surface using transparent acrylic to create rich\, luminous layers that expand the possibilities of watercolor. \nEnjoy a full day of art\, inspiration\, and celebration at the Phippen Museum.
