Fred Fellows, Dealing with the Burden of Wealth, bronze, 13x13x6, $3,100

Fred Fellows

Fred Fellows is a two-time past president of the Cowboy Artists of America and has won both Gold and Silver medals in sculpture, drawing and painting. He won the Artist Choice Award for Best of Show at the Cowboy Artist of America Show in 2007 and recently finished a monument for McNeese State University at Lake Charles, Louisiana. One of his sculptures was recently placed in the permanent collection of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming and in 2006, Fred received the "Western Artist of the Year Award" from the Academy of Western Artists.

Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Fred always knew he wanted to move west and become a cowboy. He repaired saddles after class to earn enough money to buy a horse and went on to rope in rodeos and work on ranches.

In the early years of his art career in Montana, Fred traded paintings for antique rifles at gun shows and then resold them for cash. Following his dream was a struggle until his break when he was offered representation at a gallery in Santa Fe and was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America in 1969.

Fred's artwork is a reflection a lifetime of authentic western experiences. Each piece marked with his signature sense of humor or legendary presence is historically accurate.

He is a knowledgeable historian and extensive collector of western and Indian artifacts. In his pastime, Fred ropes and raises quarter horses with his artist-wife, Deborah, on their Adobe Walls Ranch in Sonoita, Arizona.
